History of Land Rover

History of Land Rover

In 1947, Maurice Wilks started the design of the original Land Rover at the Rover Company. The first Land Rover was officially launched in 1948 at the Amsterdam Motor Show. The original color choices for the vehicle were various shades of light green due to the availability of military surplus supplies of aircraft cockpit paint. The prototype was built on a Jeep chassis and axles.

There were a variety of vehicle types in the Series II such as a station wagon, pickup-type, Forest Rover and ambulance vehicles.
